WHO AM I? My name is Mel and I’m a Historian, a Visual Story Teller and your Trusted Advisor when you are looking for images of your family’s most important moments. I’m a People and Event Photographer based out of East Orange, New Jersey.
My catalyst for venturing into professional photography was when I got into, of all things, motorcycling. Being a little introverted, I found I needed something to do when out with my friends riding to events and on road trips so I picked up a camera and began chronicling our adventures. It wasn’t long before people started seeing my images and requesting me to shoot their families and celebrations. With the support of those early clients, I found myself taking photography more seriously and set out to build up my skills and sharpen my eye.
I pride myself on getting to know my clients and what they want. Having a background as a Professional Counselor for over 16 years really helps with photography. I’ve been trained to listen to what people say but also the unstated communications of what’s important to a person. I want to give my clients beautiful images but I also want to join with my families as their photography expert and share my knowledge to help those who are unsure or undecided about what they want.
My images have been published in Alpha and Belleza Artistic Restoration magazines, Destination Paterson Magazine and The Irvington Herald Newspaper.
I am building a business but it’s just as important to offer up your gifts to people in need. As such, I’ve volunteered my services for military familes by way of HeartsApart.org, conducted photo classes for the Girl Scouts in Paterson, NJ & donated my services for Alzheimer’s Awareness and Breast Cancer Awareness Events. I’ve also photographed homeless families in Newark, NJ, and done Professional Headshots for the Going Places Network and the ladies of Dress for Success of Morris County, NJ. Most recently, I worked with a group of amazing young photography interns from East Side High School in Newark, NJ teaching them about the craft and business of photography.
I’ve been married to my Wife and Biggest Supporter, Charnett, since 2013 and share a creative, hard working aspiring actor and music artist in my Step-Son, Joshua.
